Krynauw Nel is a qualified and registered architect. The practice has several other qualified and registered architects.

Krynauw Nel graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand, with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture in 1989 having received several certificates of merit, particularly in his major subject “Architectural Theory and Design”. He completed his first residential projects while still a student and spent a year travelling the Middle East, Europe and America. In 1987 he completed a practical year with an architectural firm in London, specializing in upmarket residential work in areas such as Little Venice, Chelsea and Mayfair. He formed a close association and collaborated with legendary British interior designer David Hicks, son-in-law of Lord Louis Mountbatten, for several years. Joint projects included work in Portugal, Cape Town and the Natal Midlands. After graduating, he spent a year with a commercial practice in Pretoria before setting up his own practice, which as been in existence for 12 years to date.

Several estate developments also retain the services of Krynauw Nel Associates to act as architect on their Aesthetic Committee, approving or rejecting plans by other architects. These estates include Dainfern Valley, Cedar Lakes, Ferndale Ridge, Kyalami Crescent, Irene Farm Villages (an estate with more than 800 homes projected over the next 3 years), Sovereign Parks and Aspen Nature Reserve.

Other than residential projects he has also recently completed a successful art centre for the Parktown High Schools for Girls. In terms of residential work, Krynauw has completed hundreds of homes all over the country to date. The practice is particularly active in the Hyde Park / Sandhurst area. The work of the practice has featured in several magazines such as “SA Homeowner, “Garden & Home”, “House & Leisure”, “SA Mirror”, etc., as well as on several programmes on national television.
